FOR THE 2012 WADARS DRAGON BOAT FESTIVAL

Yes, the venue is booked and the racing is on at the 2012 wadars Dragon Boat Festival at Brooklands Lake Lancing in Sunday 29th July 2012 sponsored by Bowers & Wilkins.

Get your team of 15 together (14 paddlers and one person banging the drum) and start deciding on your fancy dress outfit for the day. Then complete the enclosed booking form and return it to me with your deposit of £300. Once received, I will confirm your place and send you full details of what to expect from the day.

Remember everything is supplied, all your team have to do is turn up at 9.00am, set up your tent or marquee as your HQ and join in the fun. As last year, there will be three rounds of racing with the fastest teams going into the grand finals around 4.00pm. Trophies and medals will be awarded to the winners and a special trophy will be awarded to the best fancy dress team as decided by the judges. In addition there will be a wide variety of sideshows, entertainment and other stalls in the park plus food and drink outlets. So bring the whole family along, have a picnic in the park and watch all the fun.

Team spaces are limited so please do get your registration form sent in as soon as you can to assure your teams entry.

Please remember that this event is being held to raise much needed funds for wadars - your local animal charity. I would like to remind all teams that as well as the deposit which helps wadars defray our set up costs, I am asking teams to raise as much as possible in sponsorship. If you do not anticipate raising funds for wadars you will not be allowed to participate in the event.

The Teams

Teams will be made up of 15 people (14 paddling and one banging a drum on the front of the boat) from companies, organisations, clubs and other organisations from throughout the region. Each team will have a minimum of 3 timed runs with the top teams going into a grand finale at the end of the day. Winners of the final receive a Dragon Boat Trophy and medals are awarded to 1st 2nd and third. 

Fancy Dress and Entertainment

There will also be a separate Fancy Dress Competition for the best dressed team with a special Dragon Boat Trophy given to the winners. In addition there will be a number of side shows, stalls, food outlets, music and displays to entertain the teams when they are not racing and the general public who have come to watch the racing.

Team Base

Teams are being encouraged to set up their own tent/gazebo as a base for their team. This can be decorate with flags, banners etc., The team tents, together with all the sideshows and stalls will give the event a wonderful presence in the park and be great spectacle for those who come to enjoy the day.

The event is professionally run by “Dragon Boat Events” one of the UK's top Dragon Boat Event Organisations who supply all the boats, life jackets, paddles, all safety equipment, PA system, staff, scoring and timing equipment, medals and trophies.
